Is Derry Hallowe’en taking place this year?

Yes, we are still planning to celebrate Derry Hallowe’en but things will be a little bit different this year.

With the disruptions of Covid-19 and restrictions on social gatherings, the delivery of our festival in its traditional form is simply not possible.

Unfortunately, events which attract large crowds such as the Carnival Parade and Awakening the Walls are not able to go ahead this year but we will keep the Spirit of Derry Hallowe’en alive by bringing you performances, spooky tales, music gigs and online tutorials through our online channels; www.derryhalloween.com and @DerryHalloween social profiles.

We will bring the colour and creativity of Hallowe’en into our local communities through a number of workshops and activities facilitated by the North West Carnival Initiative.

 What is happening this year?

While we normally flock to the streets to show why Derry does it best, this year we are asking you to stay home, stay safe and enjoy our digital programme of events from the comfort of your sofa (or behind it!).

We’ll have spooky tales for your Little Horrors to watch, Samhain Sessions for music lovers, and online tutorials in everything from broomstick-making to cocktail-shaking. We’ll also be bringing some ghostly friends back to life to share the story of Samhain for this year’s Awakening.

And it wouldn’t be Derry Hallowe’en without some out-of-this-world fancy dress – so enjoy our virtual workshops, share your costumes with us on social media, and keep the creative juices flowing for 2021!
